Why Mormons not allowed to wear a cross necklace / jewelry?

Ok, so I went to this conference talking about Mormon culture and I'm in the west and how a Christian can speak the Gospel to someone who is Mormon. someone brought a point not sure if that is true or not Mormons can not carry a cross. Why not?

To answer the question, yes, Mormons can wear crosses … most do not. While the crucifixion remains an incredible sacrifice, the atonement as a whole is what has saved us all. Furthermore, the reason had to die, and not only be repaired by our sins, was resurrected so we can all like him. We worship the living Christ and try to live our lives according to his example, the goodness and charity and love. Certainly there are some members LDS, most of which have become a different religion to the Mormons, which still bear his cross. In general, we choose to remember his life and teachings, our salvation through His atonement and resurrection.
